Rejecting the Big Shot - Chapter 8.1
Yi Zhongshen’s sudden arrival caused the already silent atmosphere in the room to turn awkward.
Bo Xiyun instinctively took a side-step and blocked Yi Zhongshen’s view of the fallen papers. He had not thought of an explanation when Gu Sheng said, “There was something wrong with Xiyun’s air-conditioner and I just helped to sort it out.”
As he was speaking, Gu Sheng moved forwards slightly, blocking the view of a piece of paper that had floated away from the pile.
His new position allowed him to block Yi Zhongshen’s line of sight into the room.
“You have finished showering, Zhongshen?”
Gu Sheng’s tone was normal, as if nothing had happened.
“We were just thinking of asking you where to get supper.”
Bo Xiyun took this opportunity to bend down and pick up the scattered papers.
After a short silence, Yi Zhongshen’s low voice replied, “Check with Junior.”
Gu Sheng took a look at Bo Xiyun who was concentrating on tidying his papers and sighed resignedly, “Junior will definitely say he is fine with anything. In the end, I will have to make the decision.”
He took out his mobile, “Let me search for recommendations nearby.”
He had just started searching when he spoke again, as if he had just remembered something, “Zhongshen, have you changed your bedding?”
Gu Sheng knew the answer when he did not get Yi Zhongshen’s reply.
“Stop dragging and quickly get someone to change the bedding. If not, it will be hard for me to answer to Aunt Su.”
He hurried Yi Zhongshen to go back to his own room and closed the door when Yi Zhongshen left. He leaned his back against the door and finally relaxed in relief.
The papers on the floor had been kept and the plain envelope was nowhere to be seen. Gu Sheng looked at Bo Xiyun, who was standing obediently and clutching his fingers, and his heart softened.
“Don’t worry, I don’t think Young Master Yi saw anything.”
Bo Xiyun opened his mouth, “I…”
“I know,” Gu Sheng consoled, “Don’t worry, I don’t mean anything else. I was afraid that Young Master Yi would misunderstand so I kept it from him and made him go back to his room first.”
“He personally doesn’t like gossip being linked to him and his mood isn’t very good today. Suddenly seeing those papers may cause him to think more than usual.”
Bo Xiyun was stunned as he did not expect Gu Sheng to say this.
He knew that those scattered papers would definitely lead others to misunderstand. Adding to the “I like you” note incident earlier in the evening, and those earlier rumors of him being infatuated with Yi Zhongshen, it would be impossible for others to think otherwise.
But this reaction from Gu Sheng was out of Bo Xiyun’s expectations.
Second Young Master Gu was Yi Zhongshen’s good friend, but now, he was being so thoughtful on behalf of Bo Xiyun.
And even protected him so thoroughly in front of Young Master Yi.
Bo Xiyun obediently acknowledged and sincerely gave his thanks, “Yes, thank you, Senior.”
Gu Sheng waved his hand and said, “No need. This does not involve you.”
He continued explaining“Maybe it’s in their family genes. Uncle Yi is also a very committed person and doesn’t like hearing unsubstantiated rumors as he feels it is a disrespect towards his lover.”
“It’s just that Yi Zhongshen seems to be displaying this attitude strongly recently and is more sensitive towards rumors than usual. If you don’t know him, you would think there’s someone he likes right now.”
Gu Sheng laughed as he finished. “Just kidding. With his icy and uncommunicative ways, how can that be?”
The light tone relaxed Bo Xiyun a lot. Following, he heard Gu Sheng ask curiously, “But Xiyun, why do you have those drafts? Were they leftovers from before the competition?”
Although Gu Sheng was also single, he very humbly thought that his current attitude should be the role model for all straight men.
Like those well kept handwritten papers.
Others may misunderstand but Gu Sheng will not.
“Yes, these were the drafts that Senior Yi wrote before the Olympiad.”
Bo Xiyun finally had a chance to explain.
“At the time, Senior Yi had come over on the weekend and accompanied us for two nights of study. Those who had questions could approach him and he would help teach. The drafts were from that time.”
“So you kept them intending to use them as study notes?” Gu Sheng asked.
“My study notes are in order.”
As Bo Xiyun said, he took the envelope out again and removed a piece of paper to show Gu Sheng.
“I kept the drafts because they were from Senior Yi’s school, and had the T University logo and emblem.”
Red lines were printed on the snow-white paper with T University’s name clearly on top.
“At that time, I felt T University was so out of reach.” The youth was still a little embarrassed.
“Previously, our teachers had preached to us to have a goal on which school we desire in order to motivate ourselves.”
Bo Xiyun spoke seriously as he carefully kept the paper.
“So I kept the drafts when I saw them.”
This kind of thinking was easy to understand.
After all, this was T University.
Who hasn’t dreamt of enrolling there?
Gu Sheng frowned as he listened.
He suddenly asked, “Have you always wished to attend T University?”
Bo Xiyun thought about the question and replied, “Not exactly. I had no fixed university I wanted to attend but just thought the top two universities were all excellent.”
Gu Sheng smacked the back of the chair and replied hastily, “That’s right! The other university in the top two list is also very good.”
“I’ve mentioned earlier, you are nationally placed fourth. Universities issuing direct admission invitations will not be restricted to T University. I reckon you will get news from P University soon.”
“Honestly, for Physics, P University is ranked first in the country.” Gu Sheng sincerely said.
“Choosing a school is an important matter. You should take the time to consider.”
Bo Xiyun was stunned, “…P University?”
He had thought about Gu Sheng’s reaction before his explanation and even thought Gu Sheng would not believe him.
Gu Sheng’s current reaction was one he never thought about.
Gu Sheng was already making a call.
The call was picked up quickly and Gu Sheng said hurriedly, “Hello, Number One, you should still be in school?”
“Tomorrow, help me get some stuff from the school bookstore. Things like postcards, keychains, things for a high school student, you make the call. Mail it to me after you have bought them. Yes, most importantly is draft paper with the P University name on it. The school name must be obvious, the bigger the better. And buy…”
Gu Sheng glanced at Bo Xiyun, deep in thought.
“Buy one carton. That should be enough to last for half a year. Yes, thanks.”
Gu Sheng made the call and gave his instructions so smoothly and quickly that Bo Xiyun didn’t even have time to react when the call ended.
“There’s still some time before you confirm which direct admission offer to accept. You can take this time to understand and compare the top universities.” Gu Sheng advised seriously.
“Honestly, it’s not that I want to belittle the university next door, but just take a look at our draft paper, P University’s is so much better to use. You will know once you have tried.”
What’s so special about those T University draft papers?
We have new ones here, a whole carton, use them for anything!
Bo Xiyun, “…”
He stared in disbelief, not quite comprehending and his reaction was a lot slower than usual.
Maybe this is…
The spirit of comparison between the top two universities?
Gu Sheng continued giving a list of instructions before he finally left.
After a short while, when the rooms were tidied, they went out for supper together.
It was past ten o’clock at night when they returned after supper. The warm hotel lobby was conducive in letting them relax.
“The hotel’s warmer for sure.”
Gu Sheng gave a comfortable sigh and pressed the lift button.
“It’s late, go back to the room and rest early.”
Gu Sheng remembered that Bo Xiyun was busy for the whole day and said, “Sleep first if you are tired. Unpacking the luggage can wait for tomorrow.”
Bo Xiyun replied as they entered the lift, “I’m almost done unpacking.”
“I will revise today’s work before sleeping.”
“Revise today’s work?” Aren’t examinations over? Gu Sheng asked, “What work?”
Bo Xiyun replied, “From some Olympiad books.”
“You are going to start today?” Gu Sheng asked, “It’s the beginning of the holidays. Aren’t you going to take a break?”
Bo Xiyun smiled, “It’s ok. This is my normal habit and there’s no difference with it being the holidays. I’m used to it.”
Gu Sheng was surprised when he heard this.
He was in the same cohort as Yi Zhongshen and had just graduated from high school the previous year.
Which high school student didn’t throw their shackles off and have fun once it was the school holidays? Especially since there were no examinations after this holiday.
Bo Xiyun being able to maintain his usual school routine was a rarity indeed.
“Such seriousness…”
When the lift reached their level, Gu Sheng was still sighing when he heard Yi Zhongshen, who had just stepped out of the lift, speak to Bo Xiyun.
“It’ll be better that you turn in half an hour earlier than usual after you have looked through your work.”
Yi Zhongshen’s voice did not contain much warmth. It was low with magnetism and was slightly cold as usual.
“The weather is extremely cold today and you had motion sickness earlier. Your body needs to rest.”
Motion sickness?
Gu Sheng then remembered that Yi Zhongshen requested for a supper place that was within walking distance of the hotel. Was he afraid that Junior would get motion sickness?
While he was processing this thought, Yi Zhongshen had already sent Bo Xiyun to his door.
The youngster obediently replied, “OK.”
Gu Sheng had always been one who could pick out the important points. Until Bo Xiyun closed the door, the corridor seemed to be filled with Gu Sheng’s puzzlement.
“Eh Zhongshen, why is he so tired? What did you do in the car?”
